By definition when one medium is used in combination with another medium it’s termed “mixed media.” Many scratchboard users combine colored inks, watercolor, pastels, or watercolor pencils with scratchboard, forming a mixed media. This class will introduce you to adding traditional oil paint with either watercolor or inks, thereby creating a triangular mixed media. This is a technique that is rarely seen, and one the instructor has perfected in his own search for more originality in his use of scratchboard. Discover the variable looks and techniques that can be achieved by combining transparent and opaque mediums in a mixed media format. The instructor will provide his own photographs to work from, but also encourages students to bring a photo of their own choosing, preferably a photo of their own or one they’ve been given permission to use.
